the soapmaking process
All Sacred Suds soaps are handmade from scratch. I craft the soaps using both the cold process and hot process methods, which combine skin-nourishing vegetable oils with an alkali to make soap (you can read more about our choices of ingredients here). Glycerin is formed in the process and is retained in the soap, unlike most commercial soaps where the glycerin is removed. Glycerin is a humectant, which means that it draws moisture to the skin, and it is an emollient, which means that it is softening, lubricating, and moistening to the skin. It also helps oil mix with water, and dissolves many kinds of dirt, making it an excellent cleanser.
The entire process, from conception to finished product, takes 6 to 8 weeks to complete. I take great care in crafting scent blends that I feel capture the essence of the goddess or god that inspired the soap. Once I'm satisfied with the scent blend, the actual soap-making takes about a day and a half. Then the soap cures for 3 to 4 weeks in order to harden and mellow into the luxurious, gentle bar that will pamper your skin.
how are the soaps sacred?
I craft our soaps with intention every step of the process, doing my best to make them magically potent, in the hopes that they will help you turn your attention every day (or every time you wash) to the positive energies you would like to bring into your life. I start by choosing gods and goddesses who represent positive energies I think people would like to tap into, then create magical, healing scent blends that correspond to those energies. I also craft unique blends of base oils, herbs, and nutrients that are not only wonderful for your skin, but that I also feel best serve the soap's purpose. Finally, when I actually craft the soap, I do my best to cultivate an environment and a mindset that maintain a focus on the deity to help capture the intention and preserve the positive energy in the soap.
